January 10, 2011 – Education For Development (EFD) has been awarded a $ 2,900 grant from the Australian Consulate-General under its Direct Aid Program to support a school in Binh Thanh District named Anh Minh School for Hearing Impaired Children. The school currently does not have a library. The students do not have a quiet place to sit and read while improving their reading skills independently. Teachers lack an area to store reference books and teaching tools, which are necessary for composing lesson plans. Accordingly, EFD believes that supporting this school in setting up a library will enable them to improve their educational services and provide less privileged children with an opportunity to access books and other reference material to increase their knowledge. In total 169 children and youth with an hearing and speech impairment and 38 teachers and staff will benefit from the implementation of this project.
January 19, 2011 – Education For Development (EFD) has received a donation of about $ 2000 from proceeds of ticket sales of the show “A Christmas Carol”, organized by The International Choir & Orchestra of HCMC in December last year. The donation will contribute to EFDs projects aiming at improving the quality of education for disadvantaged children and youth so they can develop themselves to their full potential.
